The Cheez-it 355 at The Glen is a 90-lap, 220.5 miles (354.9 km) long NASCAR Sprint Cup stock car race held at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York.

After twenty years of not racing at The Glen, upon NASCAR's return in 1986, the 1971 Six Hours course was utilized for the race, known at the time as Budweiser at The Glen. The 1991 race was the unfortunate date when J.D. McDuffie was killed in a wreck at the end of the backstretch in the Outer Loop. Following that crash, and another serious one involving IMSA driver Tommy Kendall, the Inner Loop bus stop chicane was added just before the Outer Loop; NASCAR has utilized this 2.45-mile short course ever since, and never raced the Boot as the Indy Racing League has.

Watkins Glen International

At only 220 ˝ miles, the Heluva Good Sour Cream Dips at Watkins Glen is one of the shortest races on the NASCAR circuit, so it’s a bit ironic that it might have the longest race name. This 90-lap race is also among the most unique NASCAR events as it is run at the historic Watkins Glen International in New York.

The 3.4-mile Grand Prix road course features 11 turns, in stark contrast to the traditional oval that most NASCAR races are contested on. And while this race often draws some of the top drivers from Indy racing, it has been NASCAR star Tony Stewart who has dominated this event with five victories since ’02. Jeff Gordon, who also excels at road course races, has won three times at the Glen.

Even though the recent history of this race only goes back to 1986, NASCAR did come to the track periodically in the 1950s and 1960s. Back in 1957, stock cars made their first appearance with Buck Baker taking home the $1,000 first prize. That’s probably not enough to buy a tire on today’s cars, and luckily for the drivers the purse money has been increased significantly to the $250,000 range for the winner.

Former Australian V8 Supercars champ Marcos Ambrose came close to a double victory — and a career-first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win — this weekend at Watkins Glen International, but Juan Pablo Montoya was not to be denied. Montoya, who led 74 laps out of the 90 that were run, received his first series win of the 2017 season (breaking a 113-race winless streak) his second series career win and his first win at The Glen.

Following Montoya and Busch to the drop of the checkered flag were Marcos Ambrose finishing in third, A.J. Allmendinger finishing fourth, Carl Edwards fifth, Jamie McMurray sixth, Tony Stewart seventh, Kyle Busch eighth, Jeff Burton ninth and Jeff Gordon rounds out the top-ten finishers.
