The Dickies 500 is now the AAA Texas 500, but it’s still the place to be as NASCAR visits Texas Motor Speedway in week 8 of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Similar to the Atlanta Motor Speedway and
the Lowe's Motor Speedway, the track allows high speed
races and adrenaline rushes for all who watch. The track
measures 1.5 miles around and has turns of 24 degrees,
and follows the quad oval design, where the front
straight away pushes outward slightly.
The Dickies 500 was acquired as a result of the Ferko
lawsuit, which forced NASCAR to relinquish the sport's
fourth major, the Mountain Dew Southern 500. Fans were
angry at the decision and felt the need to voice their
opinions over the changes. The lawsuit not only changes
the Texas Motor Speedway but how the NASCAR season was

2010 AAA Texas 500 Winner
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin, who qualified thirtieth, won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series 2010 AAA Texas 500. This became his eighth win of the season, and his second at Texas Motor Speedway. Hamlin took over the points lead in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Series point standings and he now leads four-time and defending Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson by 33 points. Johnson ended the day finishing ninth.
2009 Winner of the Dickies 500 - Sprint Cup Series
In 2009, Kurt Busch drove to Victory Lane
at Texas after his younger brother ran out of fuel with
2 1/2 laps left. Kyle Busch was trying to stretch his
fuel to make the end while his brother Kurt was closing
in steadily from behind. Kyle ran out of gas with 2 1/2
laps to go and dove onto pit road. His brother Kurt took
over the top spot and was able to make it to the
checkers to steal the win.
Carl Edwards came from out of
the pack to claim the win in 2008
Edwards hung around the contenders for
most of the race, telling his pit crew that he needed to
come out of the last caution period in 6th place or
better to win the race. True to form, Edwards came out
in 6th place, passed Mark Martin with only one lap to
go, and cruised to the finish line as the leader. It was
Edwards 4th win in 47 starts driving his #99. Can
Edwards do it again in 2009 or will Jimmy johnson have
